Our origins date back to when sweet foods held great value, and our company crafted syrup from starch, a natural gift from the sun in Okayama, Japan. Since then, we have been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life by developing materials that harness the power of nature, ensuring convenience and comfort.

In 2023, we marked our 140th anniversary and a decade as part of the Nagase Group. In April, we merged the biochemical business of Nagase ChemteX, consolidating our enzyme sector leadership within the group. This aligns precisely with our aim to boost our international brand presence. On April 1, 2024, Hayashibara changed its name to “Nagase Viita“.

Aligned with our new company name, we have redefined our Purpose as “Respect life, and embrace the well-being of people and the planet,” articulating the essence of our existence. From now on, we remain committed to refining our technology and developing materials utilizing the power of nature, represented by microorganisms and enzymes. Leveraging our accumulated expertise and products, we will create new value to enhance the well-being of both humanity and the planet.

The external environment surrounding us is undergoing significant changes. Faced with major global food shortages and climate change on a planetary scale, collaborating with stakeholders can extend beyond what a single material manufacturer can offer. To truly embrace a sustainable future, we sincerely hope to meet and partner closely with many like-minded associates who share our aspirations.
